BARITO is a river in the southern part of Kalimantan Island in Indonesia. It originates on the southern slopes of the Müller Range and flows into the Java Sea. In its upper course are rapids and waterfalls; further downstream, it flows through a heavily swampy plain. The river is navigable. In its delta lies the seaport of Banjarmasin, the largest city and port of Kalimantan.
It is one of the most important water transportation arteries of Kalimantan, connecting the central regions of the island with its southern coast. Several bridges span the Barito River in different locations. The most significant is the so-called "Barito Bridge" (Jembatan Barito), located north of Banjarmasin. With a length of 1,082 meters, it has been Indonesia's longest river bridge since 1997.
